Wizard Turf War : Inbound

Launching late spring ‘26 The D20 Speakeasy is proud to bring you “Wizard Turf War”!

So what is it?

“Wizard Turf War” is a fast paced 1v1 skirmish miniatures game. Designed to feel deadly and chaotic, players cast spells that can inflict huge amounts of damage, affect large portions of the board, and cause the involuntary movement of enemy Wizards. Players control a Council of four Wizards with the goal of stomping the enemy Council.

But what does it feel like?

The game was designed to feel like battles from anime and western animation. This is NOT a battle of attrition. With every round of combat the amount of spells at your disposal increases, along with your destructive power.

Who is designing it?

I am! I’m Rob and I've been homebrewing and making my own games since the fifth grade. This is my first published game and I can firmly state that this is the game I intended to make, something more bite size for conventions, pick up matches, and people that might be coming over to the wargaming scene from stuff like Dungeons and Dragons or Draw Steel!

Where is that art from?

We’ve partnered with Cara Curley. She’s done a LOT of work on this, including the cover, layout, and almost anything else that's not text. (She’s done some of that too!) This game wouldn't have the visual polish or identity that it does without her. You can find more about her talents here -> https://www.caracurley.com/

What's one thing you are excited to share about the game?

THE TERRAIN IS DESTRUCTABLE! Like all of it. In addition to its fleeting nature, there is also a rule called “Shrapnel Damage”. If a piece of Terrain takes more damage in total than it had at the beginning of its placement that overflow of damage is dealt to everything in a 5” radius of it. So if a tower has 5 hp left and is dealt 25 points of damage, everything around it takes the left over 20!

Why not Kickstarter?

This is a question we’ve already been getting asked. The answer is a pretty simple one. We’ve never published a game before. While we won't rule out future games going to crowdfunding, this one was funded in house as a test to see what it takes to do it. It’s a lot of work just to make a game let alone run a crowdfunding campaign for the first time.

Models? Where are the models?

This game is miniature agnostic. I encourage you to go find any wizard model you’d like. In play testing we used anything from Games Workshop and Reaper Miniatures to custom Hero Forge Sculpts.

Where can I find it?

The game will be released on Wargamevault.com . The digital release will only be there, as well as a print on demand version. That being said if you find me a Pigments Miniature Show or Reapercon this year I might have a black and white zine version to give you!. If we make more Wizard subclasses (called arcane disciplines) those will be released on our Patreon at the Paint Water Connoisseur tier.

Leading up to the games launch we will be releasing some short fiction so keep an eye out for that! Bye for now!
